Durham Engineering delivering insight for cost-effective vessel and pipeline design and development

Durham Engineering, a provider of engineering solutions, faced the challenge of updating safety systems on aging vessels for a polyurethane and vehicle additive manufacturer. The client lacked technical data for the tanks from the 1960s, and traditional assessment methods were highly conservative and would have required a costly and dangerous full drainage and human entry. EDRMedeso provided the Ansys Mechanical simulation software to safely and accurately analyze the vessels.

Using Ansys Mechanical from EDRMedeso, the simulation identified that the modification could be less extensive than initially thought. The analysis determined the vessel's pressure limits, allowing for a more appropriately sized relief valve to be fitted using an existing opening. This solution negated the need for drainage and high-risk human intervention, minimizing costly downtime and providing a speedy payback on the simulation costs for the customer.
