A Edmentum Case Study
Wrightstown Middle School, a rural Wisconsin middle school of about 396 students (grades 5–8) with roughly 20% in RTI, needed a comprehensive way to boost reading and math skills for students below the 20th percentile, track individual progress, pinpoint weaknesses, and give instant feedback to support intervention and instruction.
The school implemented Study Island in 2009, using NWEA MAP results to create individualized learning paths, daily practice in the RTI resource room, targeted pretests via the test builder, and parent reporting and gamified incentives to keep students engaged. From 2009–10 to 2013–14, proficient/advanced rates rose 14% in reading and 16.8% in math; students have tested out of RTI (two reached the 50th percentile), and individual gains include an eighth grader’s 8-point math MAP improvement after summer Study Island use.
