The Versatility Needed for Incoming Learners

Hinds Community College, a six-campus institution serving 32,000 learners in central Mississippi, faced the common challenge of incoming students needing to quickly build proficiency before tackling college-level coursework. Instructors required a rigorous, motivating curriculum with a broad range of courses and flexible delivery to address varied skill gaps across many programs.

A committee piloted and recommended Edmentum’s Plato Courseware, which Hinds now uses across College Skills, GED prep, Career Tech, nursing, Gateway to College, and childcare programs. Plato’s animated, interactive, and segmented lessons—plus robust reporting for grading, placement, and advising—led to stronger student engagement, more positive survey responses, and higher pass rates, and Hinds is continuing its partnership to expand blended learning.
