The Solution to Watch-List Accountability

Sheboygan Falls School District, a small K–12 district of about 1,800 students in Wisconsin, faced a major accountability challenge when its middle school was named a Title I Focus School for achievement gaps in two math subgroups. The designation required the district to identify students at risk of falling behind (using attendance, discipline, enrollment and WSAS data) and implement targeted RTI interventions while providing evidence of progress to the state.

The district partnered with Edmentum products (Study Island, Plato Courseware, Accucess and Edmentum Assessments) alongside NWEA MAP data to create individualized learning paths used for morning interventions, enrichment, credit recovery and ACT prep. Over 2014–15, 15 of 16 middle school students identified as at risk improved their RIT scores and four exited interventions; at the elementary level eight of 25 students exited intervention, and high school credit recovery showed an 80% completion rate. The district now uses the blended learning data to expand programs and train staff districtwide.
