A Edmentum Case Study
Edmentum partnered with the School District of Osceola County, FL, whose alternative programs serve about 1,000 of the district’s 61,932 students, to tackle a low graduation rate (67.5% in 2007–08), a high number of fifth‑year seniors, and students at risk due to homebound or hospital placement. The district needed a flexible, scalable credit‑recovery and early‑intervention solution to help diverse students catch up and stay on track.
Using Plato Courseware and Edmentum Assessments, Osceola implemented credit‑recovery labs (80% pass requirement), benchmark-driven sixth‑grade interventions, custom EOC prep, and an at‑home program with certified teachers. The initiative produced rapid gains—400 graduates and 2,000 credits in year one, 1,045 graduates and 4,100 credits within three years, and by 2014 over 3,500 graduates with 13,000+ credits—while the district’s graduation rate rose above the state average (to 79.2% then 78% in 2013–14), 70% of supported sixth‑graders returned to grade level, Algebra EOC outcomes improved, and 200+ hospital/homebound students stayed engaged each year.
