Case Study: Christa McAuliffe Middle School achieves significant gains in Science and Civics FSA scores with Edmentum's Study Island

Soaring Science and Civics Success in Boynton Beach

Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Boynton Beach, FL, a technology magnet serving grades 6–8, faced a troubling drop in 8th-grade science scores in 2016. School leaders investigated solutions and adopted Study Island to target FSA-aligned remediation and test prep across science and, later, civics and other core subjects.

Teachers used Study Island for focused FSA practice, after-school tutorials, and a schoolwide “Study Island Challenge” to boost usage and engagement; instructors monitored progress with program data and individualized assignments. The result: science proficiency rose from 61% (2016) to 74% (2018), civics improved from 85% (2017) to 86% (2018), 450 students met the challenge goal, and staff reported easier lesson setup and stronger alignment with state assessments.
