Smooth Sailing Ahead Oceanside Unified School District Ensures Students Have a Brighter Future

Oceanside Unified School District in San Diego faced declining graduation rates and a large number of credit-deficient students across its high schools (and some middle/elementary programs). The district needed a scalable, flexible credit-recovery and acceleration solution to help students retake failed classes and graduate on time.

Oceanside opened three Academic Acceleration Recovery Centers and implemented customizable Plato Courseware, allowing coursework to be completed in accelerated 90-hour blocks (adjustable as needed). Participation and outcomes improved steadily: students served grew from 224 to 399, graduates rose from 29 to 99, course completions increased from ~1,000 to over 2,000 annually, and recent activity yielded thousands of credits and a potential 120 graduates; a foundation grant also funded on-site counselors and helped 75 students transition to community college with about $300,000 in college funding secured.
