Simplifying Response to Intervention

Cornerstone Schools in Detroit is a private, data-driven K–11 campus serving 344 students that prides itself on high graduation and college-going rates but needed a scalable, individualized way to remediate students who fell behind. The school required a nimble solution to provide targeted instruction and real-time data so teachers could quickly address skill gaps and keep students on accelerated academic tracks.

Cornerstone partnered with Edmentum Assessments to deliver pretests, individualized learning paths, prescriptive content, regular lab sessions and after-school “open lab” support, plus weekly teacher alignment meetings. The program helped Cornerstone outpace state MEAP averages (in some classes by double), earn a #1 Detroit school rating for 2013–14, and produce dramatic individual gains—students moved multiple years above grade level in math and reached post-high-school achievement levels while still in middle school.
