Setting an Early Pace for High School Success in Paxton

Paxton-Buckley-Loda (PBL) Senior High School, a small rural Illinois school serving about 470 students, struggled to provide affordable, timely credit recovery — a key factor in keeping students on track to graduate. Limited resources meant students often paid $160 per credit and recovery was typically reserved for juniors and seniors, leaving underclassmen at risk of falling behind.

PBL implemented Edmentum’s Courseware blended-learning solution to offer earlier, more flexible credit recovery and alternative course options. The shift reduced in-person retakes, kept core class sizes manageable, freed staff resources for other needs, and increased student engagement; as a result, the freshman on-track rate rose 11% in the first year, and the school is expanding dedicated Courseware time, including summer sessions.
