Salinas Union High School District, serving 15,000 largely Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students in Salinas, CA, needed online courses that met California’s strict UC “a‑g” certification so credits would count toward graduation and college admission. The district faced limited, non–“a‑g” credit recovery options at its high schools and little digital content or intervention in middle schools, prompting a search for a comprehensive, certified solution.

The district implemented Edmentum’s suite—Plato Courseware plus adaptive and fixed-form assessments (Accucess and Test Packs)—with a phased rollout and tailored teacher training, starting at alternative school El Puente, expanding through summer school, then districtwide, and adding CTE and post‑secondary options. By spring 2017 students had logged more than 213,000 hours in the platform and earned over 12,000 credits since fall 2016, helping many off‑track students return to on‑time graduation paths and validating the district’s systematic, data‑driven implementation.
