Plato Courseware Increases Student Success in a 1:1 Environment

Bellevue School District, a rural Iowa district serving 364 students in grades 6–12, launched a 1:1 laptop program in 2012 to support a flipped-learning model and boost Iowa state test scores. The district sought around-the-clock, standards-aligned supports that would provide individualized practice and clear benchmark data so teachers could identify mastered skills and gaps.

Bellevue adopted Edmentum’s Plato Courseware for at-home, self-paced study plus in-class reinforcement; the interactive, standards-based program delivered personalized learning paths and regular benchmark measurements. After one year Bellevue saw lower failure rates across middle and high school, a 100% high school graduation rate (2012–13), 90% of students improving benchmark scores during the year, and gains in 8th- and 11th-grade reading and math—students and teachers reported greater confidence and preparedness.
