A Edmentum Case Study
Ned E. Williams Elementary School in Longview, TX (K–5, 557 students; 79% African American, 20% Hispanic, 90% economically disadvantaged, 22% ELLs) faced persistent background-knowledge gaps and needed a way to differentiate instruction, align to STAAR standards, and keep third–fifth graders engaged to raise state assessment performance.
Principal Cynthia Wise implemented Study Island in a small-group blended-learning model, added STAAR-aligned Quiz Bowls, and used disaggregated data to target instruction. Within two years the school saw reading rise from 79% to 90%, math increase 19 percentage points to 95%, and science climb from 69% to 75%, producing a rapid upswing in achievement and state recognition.
