A Edmentum Case Study
Lincoln K-8 Choice School in Rochester, MN is an urban K–8 school of about 400 students that in 2006 faced the prospect of not meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs). With multi-aged classrooms and a diverse student population, the school needed a way to sharpen focus on state standards, monitor progress, and motivate students across grades 3–8.
The school implemented Study Island in fall 2006 for math, reading and science, using real-time reports, in-school and at-home access (about 80% of usage), and incentives like blue ribbons and the “Rock Town Tour” to drive engagement. Since implementation Lincoln has made AYP every year, boosted math proficiency from 71% to 81% and reading from 80% to 85% (2006–2009), achieved some of the highest MCA growth in the district, and recorded an average 7-point NCE gain in math—results school leaders attribute largely to Study Island.
