A Edmentum Case Study
Glen Lake Elementary School, the sole elementary in a rural Michigan district serving 420 K–6 students, faced the challenge of remediating struggling learners with limited staff and resources. The school implemented a Response to Intervention (RTI) approach but needed a consistent, easy-to-use supplemental program to support Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction and prepare students for statewide assessments.
Glen Lake adopted Study Island, using a Title I–funded remediation teacher to provide 30–40 minutes daily of targeted pullout instruction in a lab setting, with the program differentiating practice based on classroom-identified needs. Despite a difficult statewide assessment year, Glen Lake’s sixth graders outpaced the state by 27% in math and 13% in reading, and fifth graders showed a 30% advantage in both subjects, demonstrating strong RTI results and continued confidence in Study Island.
