A Edmentum Case Study
Frank Long Elementary in Hinesville, GA (part of Liberty County) serves about 610 K–5 students and faced the dual challenge of engaging 21st-century learners while supporting struggling students to maintain strong performance on Georgia’s CRCT. Technology was already integral to instruction, but the school needed a more interactive, standards-aligned approach that would motivate students and personalize learning.
Frank Long rolled out Study Island school-wide (grades 1–5) for whole-class, small-group, and individualized instruction—using computer labs, SMART Boards, clickers, learning centers, online writing assignments, RTI reporting, and a “blue ribbon” incentive for after-school/home practice. The result was steady gains and sustained high achievement: the school has made AYP since 2003 and in 2008–09 reported strong CRCT proficiency (e.g., 87.8% in math and 95.3% in reading), with multiple grades improving year over year.
