A Edmentum Case Study
Kankakee High School, a 1,200‑student, majority‑minority school south of Chicago, faced a declining graduation rate that fell to 55% in 2011–12. Many students were falling behind due to work and family responsibilities, and the school needed a flexible, efficient way to help at‑risk students recover credits without disrupting the regular school day.
Kankakee implemented Edmentum’s Plato Courseware as an after‑school credit recovery program meeting two afternoons per week, with faculty supervising and customizing pathways for students. The standards‑based, interactive curriculum and staff support helped students make measurable progress, and the graduation rate rose to 67% in 2013—about 40 more graduates—prompting the school to consider expanding the program.
