Blue River Valley Junior-Senior High School - Customer Case Study

Blue River Valley Junior‑Senior High School, a rural New Castle, IN school serving about 280 students in grades 7–12, struggled to provide timely, individualized remediation with limited staff and instructional time. Principal Adam Perdue sought a way to quickly identify students’ learning gaps so the school could make remediation blocks more efficient and targeted.

The school created a Targeted Assistance Time (TAT) — 45 minutes four days a week — and used Study Island (with imported NWEA MAP data) to regroup students every three weeks around prioritized grade‑level “power standards,” deliver interactive lessons, and track mastery with a Blue Ribbon rewards system. The strategy coincided with steady NWEA gains and helped raise the school’s state letter grade from a C to a B in 2015–16; the district is now exploring expansion to 5th–6th grades.
