A Edmentum Case Study
Newport School District is a rural K–12 district in Newport, Pennsylvania serving about 1,400 students—50% qualifying for free or reduced lunch and 30% on IEPs. As a small district, Newport struggled to offer the course options and supports of larger districts, was losing students to charters, and needed a sustainable way to raise achievement across a diverse student population.
Beginning in 2008 Newport partnered with Edmentum to implement blended-learning solutions (Plato Courseware, Study Island, Reading Eggs, EducationCity), a 1:1 high school laptop program, middle-school laptop carts, and elementary iPad stations, coupled with extensive professional development. The initiative drove measurable gains—high school SPP rose to 86% (from ~70%), middle school SPP rose to 84%, graduation rates increased from 84% to 91%, enrollment began to rebound, and the district established sustainable funding and contingency plans.
