21st Century Students Require 21st Century Solutions

Gila Vista Junior High School in Yuma, AZ, serves a largely Hispanic, low-income student body with high seasonal mobility and resulting learning gaps. The school needed a flexible, scalable approach to support diverse learners across regular classes, remediation electives, extended-day programming and summer sessions.

Gila Vista implemented Plato Courseware, using individualized prescriptions in whole-group, small-group and at-home settings as well as in a remediation elective. In three years the school’s state rating rose from “Performing” to “Performing Plus,” AIMS scores improved an average of four percentage points in reading and three in math, benchmark proficiency climbed from about 55% to roughly 70%, and teachers reported higher student engagement and persistence with online practice.
