This project has not only significantly reduced the Trusts’ energy bill across both Hospital sites, but also enabled us to substantially improve the reliability and resilience of our electrical supplies

The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, a major regional hospital, sought a solution to reduce its significant energy costs and carbon footprint while ensuring a secure and resilient power supply for its critical operations. The trust, through its energy centre operator Dalkia, partnered with vendor Edina to implement a new combined heat and power (CHP) plant.

Edina supplied and installed two high-efficiency MWM natural gas CHP engines. This solution provided the hospital with power, heating, and cooling, achieving an average availability of 95%. The project, operational since 2001, has saved the trust over £6.25 million, with annual savings of £1.1 million. Furthermore, Edina's installation has reduced carbon emissions by 87,000 tonnes, showcasing a significant environmental impact alongside the considerable financial savings.
