Microgrid / Hybrid co-location solution delivers energy security and sustainability for UK commercial food waste management company BioteCH4

The customer, BioteCH4, a commercial food waste processor, faced high energy costs and a significant carbon footprint at its isolated Holme Bioenergy site, which relied on diesel generation due to a lack of grid connection. Seeking a more sustainable and cost-effective solution, they partnered with vendor Edina to explore an on-site power generation alternative.

Edina implemented a hybrid microgrid solution featuring two hydrogen-ready CHP engines and a co-located 1MW battery energy storage system (BESS). This configuration provided reliable, resilient power, smooths energy demand, and captures heat for site processes. The solution from Edina reduced the site's annual energy costs by 50% and cut CO2 emissions by 2,500 tonnes, enabling significant business growth through a private wire network.
