Landmark submarine houses community heating Edina CHP plant

The customer, E.ON, was part of a consortium leading a major regeneration project for the Myatt’s Field estate. Their challenge was to create a district heating scheme that would significantly reduce carbon emissions and supply reliable heating and hot water to nearly 1,000 homes, all while navigating a challenging installation site located deep underground in a historic building with severe access restrictions.

Vendor Edina was awarded the contract to supply, install, and maintain a solution. They designed and installed a containerized 600kWe MWM TCG 2016 V12 natural gas CHP engine, utilizing an off-site modular approach to overcome site constraints. This solution provided an electrical efficiency over 42% and an overall efficiency of 88%, helping the project achieve its target of an 80% reduction in carbon emissions and creating a more sustainable community. Edina also secured a long-term service contract for the plant.
