Edina’s 4MWe CHP plant powers visionary Gateshead Energy Company

Gateshead Energy Company, owned by Gateshead Council, required a solution to provide low-cost, low-carbon energy to its town centre. The council selected vendor Edina to implement a combined heat and power (CHP) plant to meet this need for both electricity and heating.

Edina supplied and installed two 2MWe MWM gas-fired CHP engines to create an efficient district energy scheme. This solution generates enough power for 5,000 homes, reduces carbon emissions by over 5,000 tonnes annually, and provides discounted energy to the local community. The plant also became the first small generator in the UK to participate in the National Grid's Balancing Mechanism, creating an additional revenue stream.
