A Edina Case Study
The customer, Guy and Wright Farm, a tomato producer, faced high energy costs that threatened their business. They partnered with the vendor, Edina, to implement a biogas-fuelled Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant to find an alternative energy source.
Edina's solution utilized food waste to generate biogas for the CHP plant, which not only produced electricity and heat but also uniquely cleaned and used the engine's exhaust to provide CO2 for the tomato greenhouses. This "closed loop" system achieved 92% overall efficiency. The results were substantial: over 90% of the generated electricity was exported to the grid, generating approximately £550,000 annually, while the heat and power used on-site saved an additional £180,000. The project also significantly reduced carbon emissions, saving an estimated 18,000 tonnes of CO2e annually by diverting waste from landfill.
