Case Study: Vital Energi achieves low-carbon district heating savings with Edina CHP

Edina CHP powers one of the largest district heating projects in the UK at Wyndford Estate

The customer, Vital Energi, faced the challenge of alleviating fuel poverty and improving energy efficiency for 1,900 homes at the Wyndford Estate, which were using costly and inefficient electric storage heaters. Partnering with vendor Edina, they sought a low-carbon, cost-effective district heating solution to reduce tenant bills.

Edina implemented a solution consisting of a 1.2MWe MWM TCG 2020 V12 CHP plant and a large thermal store. This system generates electricity for the grid and provides affordable heat via a district network, eliminating the need for individual boilers in each home. The project resulted in tenants saving up to 25% on their fuel bills and is a key contributor to Glasgow's carbon reduction target.
