Edina CHP helps Ireland’s leading tomato growers become more profitable

Kilbush Nurseries, a major Irish tomato grower, sought to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions to maintain its competitive edge. The company engaged Edina to implement a combined heat and power (CHP) solution using an MWM TCG 2020 V16 gas engine.

Edina supplied and installed the CHP plant, which operates at 96.4% efficiency and recovers CO2 for use as a nutrient for the crops. The solution resulted in annual CO2 savings of 2,792 tonnes and a 30% energy saving, making the nursery more profitable through reduced operating costs and additional income from exporting excess electricity to the national grid.
