Edina CHP generator facility powers homes and reduces CO2 at Whiteriver landfill

Louth County Council faced the challenge of managing methane gas from its closed Whiteriver Landfill site, which was being simply flared and releasing greenhouse gases and contaminants into the atmosphere. The council needed a solution to utilize this gas effectively, reduce emissions, and generate revenue to offset the site's maintenance costs.

Edina provided a turnkey solution by designing, supplying, and installing two containerized MWM gas engines to create a 1.4MWe landfill gas to power plant. The solution included a gas scrubbing system to treat contaminants. This project by Edina now generates enough electricity to power approximately 1,000 homes, reduces CO2 emissions by 3,900 tonnes per year, and provides a significant income stream for the council from exporting power to the grid.
