Case Study: Richgro achieves waste-to-energy savings with Edina biogas CHP

A Edina Case Study

Preview of the Richgro Case Study

Edina and partners deliver ‘first of its kind’ AD plant in Australia

Richgro, a family-owned organics processor in Australia, sought to reduce its energy costs and find an environmentally friendly solution for its commercial waste. The company partnered with Edina and a consortium of UK technology providers to implement an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, which included a biogas-powered combined heat and power (CHP) system.

Edina supplied, installed, and maintains a containerized MWM TCG 2020 V12 biogas CHP engine as the core of the solution. The plant processes over 35,000 tonnes of organic waste annually, diverting it from landfill. It generates electricity to power Richgro's operations and exports the surplus to the grid, while recovered heat is used to grow blueberries, creating a new revenue stream. The project reduces carbon emissions by 7,000 tonnes per year and has been so successful that Richgro ordered a second CHP engine from Edina.
