U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - Customer Case Study

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which operates the Veterans Health Administration serving 9 million enrolled Veterans, needed a robust EDI solution to support migration of its EDI Gateway from the Health Administration Data Center (HAC) to Amazon Web Services (AWS). VA required capabilities for design and analysis, parsing large X12 files, and data/business logic that complied with VA TRM policies, and selected EdiFabric’s EDI technology (built on Microsoft .NET Framework and .NET Core) to meet those needs.

EdiFabric delivered a single, extensible EDI component that enabled template extension for situational validation, splitter and async parsing of large X12 files, automatic generation of 999 and TA1 acknowledgments, database creation for HIPAA 4010/5010 transactions, and support for NCPDP Telco D.0. The EdiFabric implementation aligned with VA TRM, had no reported NIST vulnerabilities at the time, and materially improved developer productivity—allowing the VA’s PayerEDI project to process all HIPAA transactions and automate acknowledgments during the migration.
