Case Study: Leading Online Games reduces lag and improves fairness with Edgegap

A Edgegap Case Study

Preview of the Leading Online Games Case Study

Lag reduction in online games through the use of edge computing technologies

Leading Online Games partnered with Edgegap to address one of the biggest pain points in multiplayer gaming: lag. Using real match data from a live 1v1 game environment, the studio wanted to understand whether edge computing could improve network performance for both relay-based and peer-to-peer matches across players in different regions and ISP conditions.

Edgegap re-processed the studio’s match data through its edge computing platform and dynamically selected better relay locations closer to players. The results showed a 36% reduction in average RTT for relay-based matches in 91% of cases, and a 23% RTT reduction for no-relay matches in 70% of cases. Edgegap also improved fairness, reducing the latency gap between players by an average of 31 ms and improving fairness in 66% of processed matches.
