UTSA use Cumulus and Edgecore switches

The University of Texas San Antonia needed to extend its Cloud and Big Data Lab for research and education while adopting open, easy-to-manage data center networking that supports Open Compute Project (OCP) workflows and student/research needs. To achieve choice and simplicity, UTSA deployed Cumulus Linux on Edgecore Networks 10G/40G open networking switches (Edgecore bare‑metal switches with ONIE), enabling an open networking stack for their lab and cloud projects.

Edgecore Networks supplied AS6712‑32X 40G spine switches and AS5712‑54X 10G leaf/top‑of‑rack switches running Cumulus Linux in a leaf‑and‑spine topology (2 spine units, 4 leaf units), delivering 10G/40G connectivity and disaggregated network operations. As a result, UTSA extended its Cloud and Big Data Lab with a production OCP environment—two thirds of the network is now OCP‑based and over 90% of server ports use OCP technology—providing measurable scale, choice, and simplified operations thanks to Edgecore.
