A Edgecore Networks Case Study
senseLAN GmbH, a Swiss internet, TV and hosting provider serving around 12,000 households and 500 businesses, wanted to move its CloudStack-based virtualization platform away from proprietary network OSs to a Linux-friendly, open networking stack. The Linux-savvy team piloted Cumulus Linux in 2016 and evaluated white‑label switching hardware; the project included deploying two 5712-F open networking switches alongside Cumulus Linux, with hardware supplied by Edgecore Networks.
The implemented solution combined Cumulus Linux running on Edgecore Networks 5712-F switches to operate the virtualization platform that hosts mail (≈15,000 accounts), DHCP and virtual customer servers. senseLAN reports the environment is reliable, easy to administer with existing Linux tools and automation (e.g., Ansible), and delivered cost advantages versus conventional systems; after a successful pilot the Cumulus + Edgecore Networks setup was fully deployed into production.
