Case Study: CloudLabs validates OpenStack-integrated cloud fabric with Edgecore Networks

CloudLabs, an initiative within Ciii, needed a way to validate integrated rack-scale cloud solutions for customers demanding scalable private cloud, big data, and e-commerce infrastructure. To support this, CloudLabs partnered with Edgecore Networks to evaluate an SDN-based data center fabric and its integration with OpenStack, focusing on deployment simplicity, multivendor interoperability, and operational troubleshooting across a multi-rack lab environment.

Edgecore Networks’ solution, using Big Switch Networks’ Big Cloud Fabric P+V with OpenStack (including Packstack and Mirantis Fuel 6.1), was deployed and tested across a 2-rack, leaf-spine environment with physical and virtual switching. The project validated fabric deployment, tenant connectivity, floating IPs, resiliency, throughput, upgrade paths, and GUI-based troubleshooting over a 3-month effort, helping improve the product’s robustness and user experience while giving CloudLabs a proven reference stack for future cloud validations.
