The National Energy System Operator (neso) faced significant challenges with its outdated, manual email-based system for managing interconnector electricity auctions. This process was prone to errors, lacked transparency, and created administrative delays. To modernize this critical operation, neso partnered with Edge of the Web to develop a secure, automated digital auction platform.

Edge of the Web delivered a bespoke cloud-based platform featuring a user-centered web UI, API integration for direct system connectivity, and real-time notifications via email and SMS. The solution replaced the entirely manual process, providing security, full auditability, and streamlined participation for all counterparties. The results were transformative, with the platform successfully processing 401,669 unique bids and 46,836 accepted bids, moving 100% of auctions from email to the new digital system, thereby greatly improving trust and market efficiency.
