SlateSafety, an Atlanta-based technology company serving first responders, the military, and industrial workers, needed a way to keep monitoring workers even when cloud connectivity was unavailable. Using the Edge Impulse platform, including its EON Tuner, SlateSafety looked to make its BAND V2 wearable smarter by adding on-device predictive analytics for heat exhaustion risk.

Edge Impulse helped SlateSafety build and optimize a compact machine-learning model in just 10 days, using existing biometric data and only three key inputs: heart rate, core body temperature, and core exertion. The result was an efficient algorithm that runs on SlateSafety’s existing Nordic-based hardware, enables real-time alerts without connectivity, and can be deployed to devices already in the field via OTA updates.
