Lexmark, a technology company known for its printing and industrial hardware expertise, wanted to bring machine learning into its new Optra Edge industrial gateway platform. To support this effort, Lexmark turned to Edge Impulse and its edge AI model-building tools, using the platform as part of Optra Skill Builder to make ML development more accessible for both technical and non-engineering users.

Edge Impulse integrated quickly into Optra Edge, enabling onboard data collection, processing, and codeless model building for deployment across Lexmark’s industrial edge devices. The result was a faster path to intelligent edge applications with lower bandwidth and latency needs, improved data security, and better reliability; while no specific numeric KPI was given, Lexmark said proactive diagnostics and predictive analytics were highly valuable.
