Corktown Soap’s Journey From the Beginning to 70+ Pop-Ups in a Year

Corktown Soap is a Toronto-based husband-and-wife startup (Laura and Gram) that handcrafts all‑natural, vegan, palm‑oil‑free soaps and bodycare. At launch they faced three core challenges: where to sell (balancing rent/vendor fees vs. sales), building a social community, and refining their product line while managing a heavy schedule of in-person markets. To support an easy-to-edit online presence they built an Adobe Muse site and embedded Ecwid as their e-commerce solution.

Ecwid enabled Corktown Soap to unite online and offline sales, integrate with Square for unified payments and analytics, accept card payments on an iPad at markets, and customize their storefront with CSS. With Ecwid’s platform in place the business rapidly scaled — running up to five markets per week and staging 72 pop‑up events in their first year — while growing retail partnerships, streamlining bookings and analytics, and preparing to push web sales further.
