A Ecovadis Case Study
L'Oréal, the world's largest cosmetics company, sought to amplify its sustainability and social impact across its vast global supply chain. This challenge involved embedding its long-term, sustainable growth goals into its relationships with suppliers to reduce its extended environmental footprint and improve social practices. To achieve this, the customer has utilized the EcoVadis Ratings service since 2014 to assess and measure supplier performance.
The solution implemented by EcoVadis provided a framework for L'Oréal to evaluate its suppliers on social, environmental, and ethical criteria. By integrating these EcoVadis scores into strategic business reviews and offering coaching, L'Oréal drove significant improvement, with 68% of reassessed suppliers increasing their score and the company's own rating reaching the Platinum level, placing it in the top 1% of companies assessed. The measurable impacts include 767 suppliers with a valid EcoVadis assessment and a key result where 90% of the Group’s strategic suppliers are now engaged in the program, which has been integral to L'Oréal achieving its broader "L'Oréal for the Future" sustainability commitments.
