AstraZeneca, a global pharmaceutical company, aimed to build a more resilient and transparent value chain by scaling its Sustainable Procurement Program. To achieve this, the company partnered with the vendor EcoVadis to leverage its sustainability ratings and solutions. AstraZeneca's challenge was to assess and improve the ESG performance of its vast supplier network in line with its ambitious 2025 goals.

EcoVadis provided a comprehensive solution, including its Ratings, Corrective Action Plans, and the EcoVadis Academy. This enabled AstraZeneca to assess over 1,600 suppliers, collaborate on improvements, and provide targeted training. The results were significant: AstraZeneca’s own EcoVadis score rose to a Gold Medal level, and 87% of reassessed suppliers improved their scores. Furthermore, EcoVadis’s platform and the Responsible Health Initiative facilitated collective action, exemplified by supplier Minakem, which dramatically improved its own sustainability performance and carbon reporting.
