Case Study: Costain improves SHE risk management with EcoOnline

Costain, a UK infrastructure company working across energy, water, transportation and defence, needed a better way to manage safety, health and environment risk across a large and complex organisation. Working with EcoOnline, the company used a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Assurance platform to improve incident reporting, inspection tracking, and access to accurate data for senior leaders and joint venture partners.

EcoOnline implemented a refreshed SHE Assurance Review module within Costain’s “Capture” portal, replacing a previous scored inspection system and adding deeper reporting, more detailed findings, and stronger action tracking. The results were significant: actions identified in the first six months rose to 790 from 327 in the previous six months, while reporting activity across incidents, hazards, observations and inspections also increased, helping Costain spot risks faster and strengthen its safety culture.
