Cranberry Township - Customer Case Study

Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania — a rapidly growing suburb at the busy Route 19/Freedom Road corridor that carries roughly 100,000 vehicles per weekday — faced severe peak-period congestion, average delays above 13 minutes, frequent left‑turn cycle failures and traffic spillback. To address these mobility challenges, Econolite was engaged to deliver an ITS solution, including its Centracs ATMS along with video, LED signals and a fiber‑optic Ethernet communications network.

Econolite deployed a centrally based Centracs system and connected 27 of 52 area signals (with a plan to reach 34), replacing a fragmented signal network and adding agency coordination tools. Early results show approximately a two‑minute decrease in travel time per vehicle (projected to yield a 16–28% improvement in travel times and comparable reductions in delays), fewer stops, lower emissions, faster emergency response and improved roadway safety — measurable gains attributed to Econolite’s ITS implementation.
