A Econolite Case Study
The City of Sacramento faced aging and failing inductive loop vehicle detectors and began transitioning in 2005 to non-pavement intrusive technologies for its actuated signalized intersections. To preserve pavement, improve detection (including bicycles), and meet a 2009 California requirement for bicycle detection, the City selected Econolite’s Autoscope video detection as its preferred solution.
Econolite implemented Autoscope cameras at roughly 300 of the City’s 800 signalized intersections, integrating with 2070 series, ASC/2 and ASC/3 traffic signal controllers. The solution enabled bicycle detection compliance, reduced pavement disruption, and gave traffic engineers remote, dynamic control from the Traffic Operations Center—improving proactive intersection and corridor management and overall traffic flow.
