Case Study: Sacramento County achieves modernized, scalable traffic operations with Econolite Centracs

A Econolite Case Study

Preview of the Sacramento County Case Study

An Aggressive Technology Upgrade Program With Expansion Capabilities for Up to 500 Intersections, 200 Cameras, and 25 Dynamic Message Signs

Sacramento County faced aging field equipment, an obsolete central traffic system, and a failing video projection wall at its Traffic Operations Center. The County selected Econolite to modernize the system, supplying 2070 controllers with ASC/3 software, implementing the Centracs ATMS over the upgraded IP network, and replacing the projection wall with an LCD panel matrix display.

Econolite led planning and delivered 117 2070 controllers (June 2011), performed data conversion with County engineers, installed the new video wall (August), and deployed Centracs on-site to integrate local controllers and 80 IP cameras (September). Econolite’s approach eliminated the need for an expensive video wall controller by using the Centracs client, improved TOC display and control of arterial dynamic message signs, and left the County with expansion capacity for up to 500 intersections, 200 cameras, and 25 DMS.
