Taco Bell franchisee Austaco Ltd., led by VP of Operational Services Dwayne Kostiha, was looking for a better way to manage energy use across 80 Taco Bell restaurants in Central Texas. With about 40% of each location’s energy consumption tied to heating and cooling, the team needed a more intuitive solution to reduce HVAC usage and lower operating costs.

ecobee’s Energy Management System (EMS) gave Taco Bell centralized visibility and control over thermostats through a web portal, with limits on temperature adjustments to help prevent waste. The result was significant savings, including 8–12% energy reduction at one store over 10 months, plus added protection for food inventory through remote sensor alerts in walk-in fridges and freezers.
