Case Study: OmSense achieves scalable industrial power monitoring with Eclipse Foundation’s Kura

A Eclipse Foundation Case Study

Preview of the OmSense Case Study

The Business application monitoring industrial power distribution

OmSense, a family of products for monitoring industrial sensors in data centers and production environments, needed a way to turn raw data from smart PDUs into usable insights. To do that, the company wanted a software layer that could be preinstalled on industrial hardware and be up and running within minutes, while supporting remote management and future expansion. Eclipse Foundation’s Eclipse Kura open source IoT framework was the product used to meet that need.

Using Eclipse Foundation’s Eclipse Kura, OmSense built a modular, distributed solution for collecting PDU and environmental data, sending it via MQTT to a concentrator, and enabling remote administration and support. The result was a flexible platform that improved connectivity, simplified feature expansion, and supported secure remote enrollment without site security changes. OmSense also reported strong open source support and contributed patches back to the project, though no specific quantitative impact was provided.
