Bosch Pursues An Open Strategy To Transform IoT

Bosch, the global technology and services company, needed an IoT platform to connect millions of devices with operational technology and enterprise IT systems. To avoid relying on a proprietary or OEM solution, Bosch chose an open source approach and joined the Eclipse Foundation, specifically the Eclipse IoT Working Group, to help build the core technology behind its Bosch IoT Suite and related products.

With support from the Eclipse Foundation, Bosch contributed to and built commercial offerings on projects such as Eclipse Ditto, hawkBit, Hono, and Vorto. This open strategy improved Bosch’s development quality and speed, strengthened its ecosystem partnerships, and helped position Bosch as a leader in IoT; the company now has more than 60 developers working on Eclipse IoT projects and has contributed around 1.5 million lines of code.
