Albertsons Home Center, a building-supply retailer in Parksville, British Columbia, was struggling with an outdated system (Profitmaster) that was slow to learn—new hires could take up to a week to become productive—made ordering, receiving and checkout cumbersome, required labor-intensive print-and-mail monthly invoicing, and forced an expensive outsourced annual inventory count. In 2015 they switched to Spruce from ECI Software Solutions to address these operational challenges.

ECI Software Solutions implemented its Spruce Windows-based software, delivering a more user-friendly, feature-rich system that cut new-employee training from days to just a few hours, streamlined ordering/receiving/checkout, and enabled about 70% of customer statements to be emailed (reducing paper, postage and staff time). Spruce also allowed cycle counts throughout the year—avoiding an $8,000 outsourced inventory—and added dashboards, document tracking and Orgill integration, producing clear time and cost savings for Albertsons Home Center.
