Upstream launches FreeBC in 5 months with Echobind, reaching 11,400 users

Upstream, a nonprofit dedicated to providing equitable contraceptive care, faced the challenge of significant barriers preventing access to their services, especially for people in rural and lower-income communities. These barriers included lack of transportation, insurance, and centralized resources, compounded by systemic stigma. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor Echobind to build a digital telehealth platform called FreeBC.

Echobind engineered the FreeBC platform end-to-end, which included a method comparison library, a personalized quiz, and an AI assistant named Connie that provides private, clinician-reviewed answers. The solution was launched in just five months. In its first three months, FreeBC reached 11,400 users and helped 336 people enter care pathways, with over 84% of users coming from households earning under $25k, demonstrating its targeted impact.
