Using Video for Formative, Clinical Assessments at the UIC College of Dentistry

UIC College of Dentistry needed a better way to run and review Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs) for dental students in a real clinical simulation setting. Working with Echo360, the college looked to video capture to document student-patient interactions across multiple assessment stations and provide more complete feedback to both students and faculty.

Echo360 implemented video recording using Echo360 Video Capture and Echo360 Capture for Classrooms across 16 clinic stations, with microphones set up to ensure clear audio. The solution let instructors schedule and automate recordings, review performances afterward, and combine video with patient feedback. As a result, 72 students were assessed across four scenarios each, and students gained highly engaging, reflective feedback to improve their clinical skills.
