Ditching Clickers & Improving Student Engagement & Outcomes

Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine needed a better way to make classroom time more engaging and ensure students were ready to apply theory in clinical, real-world settings. Traditional clicker-style response systems weren’t supporting the deeper discussion and feedback the faculty wanted, so the school turned to Echo360’s mobile-enabled active learning platform.

Echo360 helped Iowa State implement flipped-classroom teaching, low-stakes quizzes, and interactive in-class discussion. The result was greater student confidence, more participation in labs, and better insight for instructors into where students were struggling. Faculty reported that students asked more questions, stayed more organized, and were more active in live animal practice, while instructors could adjust teaching based on quiz and engagement feedback.
